IAEM Federal Facilities Caucus
Although similar, federal emergency managers responsible for emergency preparedness, response, and recovery internal to a Federal entity are different from those more commonly known at the local, county, and state level which actively engage in Presidential Policy Directive #8 operations on the National front. We are guided by different documents specific to the executive, legislative, or judicial branch, including GSA Occupant Emergency Regulations, Federal Continuity Directives, Department of Defense Instructions, and Executive Orders. We are responsible for the safety and continuity of all three branches, including those that participate in nation-wide mitigation, preparedness and response efforts to disasters and emergencies and assist with recovery. In addition, we are also sometimes an employer of significant size within a community, and the loss of our revenues due to disaster could economically damage local communities. In the last few years federal emergency managers have realized the need and benefit of working together, and we will work to create a central community of interest and contact database for federal emergency managers. We desire to work with our local, county, and state emergency management partners to foster better outcomes and share assets, as it is important for us to collaborate. 18
