DHS Social Media Working Group for Emergency Services + Disaster Management
Recognizing the need to address the challenges associated with social media for emergency response and public safety, DHS S&T established the VSMWG in 2010. After Public Law 114-80 was passed, the VSMWG was re-named as the Social Media Working Group for Emergency Services and Disaster Management (SMWG). The mission of the SMWG is to provide recommendations to the emergency preparedness and response community on the safe and sustainable use of social media technologies before, during, and after emergencies. This community is meant to provide a platform within which the SMWG can share, discuss, and invite others from the public safety community to collaborate and contribute to the development of best practices and guidance on the use of social media for public safety. Members of FRCOP are invited to participate and provide comments in all discussions. 152
Disaster Joint Logistics Systems Practices and Programs
A forum for logistics practitioners to share best practices and collaborate on developing national logistics standards and practices for emergency operations. Furthering national logistics initiatives in areas of logistics capability assessments (LCAT), logistics training and standardization. Assisting states develop unified logistics programs that integrate local, state and federal agencies, VolAgs, and corporate partners for the purpose of pre-planning, response and recovery support to emergency operations both recurring and catastrophic. 158
Disaster Resilient Universities (DRU) Network
Creating a disaster-resilient university or college campus requires a focused effort on the part of the entire university community, including leadership, faculty, administrative professionals, staff, students, and external partners. The DRU Network assists universities nationwide by providing practitioners a multidisciplinary online platform to leverage their diverse knowledge, expertise, and skills. The goal of the DRU Network is to facilitate open communication, discussion, and resource sharing among university/college practitioners of all areas of expertise. A cornerstone of resilience is establishing effective partnerships. The peer-to-peer information sharing among DRU members helps them and others mitigate, prepare for, respond to, operate during, and recover from all types of campus emergencies. Collectively and professionally we can strengthen the resilience of universities and colleges by sharing our experiences, strategies, technical resources, processes, and lessons learned.
