DHS Social Media Working Group for Emergency Services + Disaster Management
Recognizing the need to address the challenges associated with social media for emergency response and public safety, DHS S&T established the VSMWG in 2010. After Public Law 114-80 was passed, the VSMWG was re-named as the Social Media Working Group for Emergency Services and Disaster Management (SMWG). The mission of the SMWG is to provide recommendations to the emergency preparedness and response community on the safe and sustainable use of social media technologies before, during, and after emergencies. This community is meant to provide a platform within which the SMWG can share, discuss, and invite others from the public safety community to collaborate and contribute to the development of best practices and guidance on the use of social media for public safety. Members of FRCOP are invited to participate and provide comments in all discussions.
